UPDATE
ON JACK ROUSH
Geoff Smith, President of Roush Racing made a statement at Talladega early this morning ......
They still don't know what happened to cause the plane crash. They asked Jack if he knew why he was in the hospital and he shook his head no.
DR's still need more time to elapse while watching the head injuries, Jack is being watched carefully
The way he was in the plane, he was like in a back seat but the impact pushed him to the front of the plane. |
Jack Roush is still in critical, but Stable condition and is still in intensive care. He had surgery Saturday afternoon to make repairs to bone damage on the femurs (more than 1 broken area in femur, they put a steel rod in), they repaired knee damage, the shin was a basic setting and the repairs made to the ankle on his left leg. They also cared for some open wounds. There was no swelling in head as they had previously reported that's why it was OK to move to surgery (anesthesia).
Roush did sustain head injuries but not skull fracture. DR's are not sure if injury from impact or from being underwater. His head (brain) got rattled pretty good.
Jack had a good night and he has good vital signs. Jack is recognizing family and friends and would squeeze hands in response to questions. After the crash he ingested a lot of lake water and still remains on respirator.
The way he was in the plane, he was like in a back seat but the impact pushed him to the front of the plane.
They got a hold of Larry Hicks, the guy who rescued him, he's the retired marine that dealt with search and rescue, he happened to be in a boat about 50 yards away and dove 3 times to get Roush. Larry was familiar enough with the type of harness jack was wearing and he was able to release it. Jack then floated into his arms. Hicks knew he had water in lungs and after the 5th time resuscitating Jack was finally breathing on his own. Larry was jack's guardian angel, to have someone with that knowledge and ability to rescue. If he had hit land, wouldn't have survived and, most certainly, if Larry wasn't there, wouldn't have survived landing in the water. Larry received "burns" which was from the fuel in the water; he's telling people it's a sunburn. They told Larry he is now a part of the Roush family. Hicks has been inundated with media, etc. Hicks states he had no clue who jack was and even when they told him the name it didn't register. Later on, his family said "that guy owns race teams - he's famous"
Larry Hicks was not expected to live, he has cancer and
is undergoing Chemotherapy .... There ARE angels among
us! ((Thank you Mr. Hicks ... WE SALUTE YOU and now YOUR
Famous!!))
FOX reported that Jack was able to watch some of the BGN
race from from the intensive care unit in the hospital
JUST hours after the horrible plane crash! (Now
how bad has Jack got it! WTG Jack!!!)
