A Day Of Triumph And Tragedy For DEI Thomas
Chemris
Dale Earnhardt Incorporated driver Michael Walltrip won the Daytona 500. The 37-year driver heels the record for the most consecutive starts (462), without finding victory lane. Today, as he accomplished what certainly will be a career defining achievement, the moment was overshadowed by the absence of his team owner during the celebration.
Involved in a last lap incident with Ken Schrader, Dale Earnhardt was being transported to Halifax Medical Center after being cut unconscious from his car. Michael’s teammate, Dale Jr, left the track to be with his father.
Shortly before 7pm Eastern Standard Time the racing world was shocked to learn that Dale Earnhardt died from his injuries. ”NASCAR has lost its greatest driver, and I personally have lost a friend” (Bill France Jr)

To Everyone we were to meet up with .... David and I NEVER Made it to Daytona :((((, We lost our water pump about an hour and a half south of our house.
We were towed to a shop in Lumberton NC and left there to sleep in the car until Friday AM, that is when they replaced the water pump and informed us the head gasket had to be replaced, anyway after $1,000's in car repairs (the car is STILL up in NC, pray the heads are not cracked PLEASE!) and renting (yes, a DODGE!) we finally got to Florida very early Saturday morning.
We spent a day with friends and family and then headed up to Hilton Head, SC where we quickly set up the computer and here we are with the race news ..... (Dave did
today's racap, Sorry we are tired and broke, ... LOL!

Earnhardt, a seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion and
winner of the 1998 Daytona 500, reportedly was unconscious when he
was cut from his No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet after an
accident between Turns 3 and 4 with less than two laps remaining. He
was immediately transported to Halifax, less than one-mile from the
speedway. Stewart reportedly suffered a dislocated shoulder when his
No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Pontiac was one of no less than 19 cars that
were involved in an accident on the 2.5-mile trioval’s
backstretch. The race was red-flagged at that point with 25 laps
remaining. Stewart was listed as “alert and conscious” and was
being prepared for a CT scan of his head and neck and a X-ray of his
left shoulder at 5:15 p.m. ET. He suffered a concussion in the
accident, in which his car flipped several times and was ultimately
struck -- in the bottom while flipping -- by his teammate Bobby
Labonte. There was no official update on Earnhardt’s condition at
5:15 p.m. ET. His son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., who finished second to
Michael Waltrip in the race, immediately left the speedway to go to
the hospital to join his father.

Ruttman wins Florida Dodge Dealers 250 Craftsman Truck Series
race
In an exciting contest, which due to a late caution ran 103
laps instead of the scheduled 100, veteran Joe Ruttman
outlasted the rest of the field to win the Florida Dodge
Dealers 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Friday.
Ruttman in the No. 18 DANA Corporation Dodge held off last-lap
efforts by Ricky Hendrick in the No. 17 GMAC Financial
Chevrolet and the No. 2 Team ASE Dodge of Scott Riggs to take
the checkers.
